Zac Linksy on TD Run

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2010

POTSDAM – With his brother, senior quarterback John Coleman, out of the lineup with a shoulder injury, freshman Will Coleman made his first varsity start as signal-caller for Potsdam in Friday night’s Section 10-7 football matchup versus Peru.

With the Indians lining up with nine defenders tight on the line of scrimmage and the Sandstoners going only to the run, the game was scoreless after the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Coleman faked a handoff into the middle of the line and calmly tossed a 39-yard touchdown pass over the middle to wide-open tight end, Josh Adams. Potsdam went back to the run game for the rest of the game and rolled to a 30-12 victory, Coleman not committing a turnover over the course of the entire game.

Potsdam (3-0) received touchdown runs of 76 yards in the second quarter and 43 yards in the third quarter from Zac Linsky who finished with 200 yards rushing on 22 carries. Jesse Bradish added a fourth-quarter touchdown run of six yards and finished with 72 yards rushing on 11 carries for the winners.

The Indians (0-3) scored their first points of the season with 34 seconds left before halftime when Joshua Avanzato fell on a Ryan Kenny fumble in the end zone. Kenny also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Murphy to close out the scoring late in the game for Peru.

Kenny finished with great numbers, completing 17-of-21 passes for 214 yards, operating out of the Indians’ four-wide receiver spread offense.

The speedy Linsky continued his outstanding season with a third straight over-200-yard performance.

Defensive back Ryan Lashomb made 15 tackles to lead Potsdam followed by Adams with 10. Linsky, Bradish, Derick Smith and Todd Sharlow all added seven tackles.
